Physical Characteristic: Methylal is a kind of transparent liquid under normal pressure with chloroform-like smell. It's density is 0.860 2℃, the melting point is -104.8 ℃, the boiling point is 42.3and the vapove pressure is 4 KPas under normal temperature. It can be mixed with , aether and acetone; It can dissolve resin and oil. It's dissolving capability is better than aether and acetone; The moisture with methanol can dissolve nitrocellulose which contains azote; The solubility in water is 32.3%(wt) under 16 ℃; and the wate solubility in methanol is 4.3%(wt). It is stable with alkali under normal temperature, but decomposed into formaldehyde and methanol when heat together with hydrochloric acid.
Use: Methylal is an important chemical raw material which can be used extensively. It is widely used in cosmetics, pharmaceutical, household purpose, car cares, insecticides, leather spray, rubber industry, painting and printing ink, etc. Meanwhile, due to it's good ability to wipe out off oil and volatility, it can be used as cleaner to replace F11, F113 and chlorinated solvent. To sum up, it environmentally benign characteristics make it replace Freon, so as to reduce organic emission.
Owning to its dissolving characteristic, Methylal could be used to replace some haloid solvent. For example, it can dissolve with many solvent, especially with LPG. As well the low boiling point has good advantage to increase the spray pressure and pulverization rate. Methylal have good water-soluble that may bring good development foreground for water-base aerosols products. In addition, it also has vast foreground of diesel oil additive,can also can be used as intermedia for other organic compound.
